A LIVING ROOM RENOVATION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Sep 5, 2024
There’s something deeply satisfying about a good before-and-after — not just the visual contrast, but the story behind it. At Moduvo, we believe every space has untapped potential, and this living room transformation is proof of how design can completely reshape how a room is used, felt, and loved.
The “Before”:
Our client’s living room was dated, dimly lit, and lacked flow. Furniture placement made it hard to entertain guests, and there was minimal storage for daily essentials. Despite having good bones — high ceilings, natural light, and decent floor space — the room felt tired and uninspiring. The biggest challenge was making the space more functional without a complete architectural overhaul.
The Process:
We began with a clear goal: create a warm, multipurpose living room that invites both relaxation and socializing. Step one was rethinking the layout. Instead of the traditional “sofa against the wall” setup, we floated the main seating area in the center of the room, anchored by a large, soft-textured rug. This helped define the space and improve natural flow.
To improve storage without bulky furniture, we installed custom-built cabinetry along one wall — blending open shelving with closed compartments. The mix allowed for display pieces and hidden storage, reducing visual clutter while adding personality. Lighting was a major focus: we replaced the old ceiling fixture with layered lighting — warm-toned recessed lights, a sculptural floor lamp, and LED strips behind shelving to add depth.
Materials & Palette:
The new design featured a soft, earthy palette of warm neutrals, oak wood, and matte black accents. We introduced texture through textiles — a plush sofa, linen curtains, and a woven pouf. These small details created visual richness and made the space feel lived-in yet elevated.
The “After”:
The result was a completely reimagined room that feels twice as large and infinitely more inviting. The space now functions beautifully for movie nights, reading, entertaining, and even remote work. Our client described it as “a room we finally want to spend time in.”
This transformation shows that good design isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about how a space makes you feel. And when everything works in harmony, you don’t just see the difference — you live it.
